Kukryniksy (real names: Mikhail Kupriyanov, Porfiry Krylov, and Nikolai Sokolov) were a group of artists who worked in the field of political and everyday life satire, political placards, book illustrations, and thematic compositions. Mikhail Kupriyanov was born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1902 and graduated from VHUTEIN in 1927. He also worked autonomously as a painter in the sphere of portraits, landscapes, and still life pictures. He was awarded the Lenin Prize, six USSR State Prizes, and the RSFSR State Prize named after I.E. Repin. In 1947-1949 he was a member of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Arts.
